Volunteer Staff & Training: You do not need to have previous experience with horses unless you want to volunteer as a wrangler (see below). There are many places you can help including loading kids at pony ride events, putting helmets on kids, setting up pens, web management, trail work and more. PLM offers training before any event but we will also have designated dates for additional training for anyone that wants to "get more involved". Volunteers should be at least 16 years of age* and sign a liability waiver. (PLM may allow volunteers under 16 for limited activities per insurance guidelines but they must be accompanied by an adult/guardian) Training may include safety, grooming and leading. *You must be 16 years of age or older for this training. 

Wrangler Training: Any volunteer staff that assists in a trail ride or leads a horse at a pony ride event must receive PLM Wrangler Training. The basic requirements are:

1. A wrangler must have extensive, previous horse experience

2. A wrangler must be knowledgeable of PLM horses - a minimum of 3 visits to PLM

3. A wrangler must have been on a minimum of 3 rides on the PLM trails so they know the trails (for trail rides only)

4. Lead wranglers must have current first aid certification; Assisting wranglers do not

5. Lead wranglers must be at least 23 years old, assisting wranglers must be at least 18 years old
